2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Alvin H. Brown for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Lead Pilot of a group of B-17 aircraft on a heavy bombardment mission over Regensburg, Germany on 25 February 1944. Lieutenant Brown's alert mind and quick decision over this important target was responsible for the resultant bombing success. Finding the target covered with the smoke created by the bombs dropped by other aircraft making this attack and realizing the bombs on his ship might fall inaccurately, he ordered the bombardier to make rapid changes in sighting. Later photographs proved this change resulted in direct bomb hits on the target and on numerous enemy aircraft on the ground nearby. Lieutenant Brown's shrewd judgment, quick action and thorough knowledge reflects the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
