Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major John S. Yaryan for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Aircraft Commander of the 4133rd Bombardment Wing (Provisional), Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, on 10 August 1968. On this date, Major Yaryan encountered an extremely critical emergency during take-off. His superior airmanship and calm reactions in the face of impending disaster prevented the loss of his aircraft and saved the lives of his crew. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Yaryan reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major John S. Yaryan for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 Aircraft Commander of the 4133rd Bombardment Wing (Provisional), Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, on 27 August 1969. On this date, Major flew as Aircraft Commander on a highly critical mission over Vietnam. His dedicated professionalism and outstanding airmanship enabled him to lead his wave through severe weather and heavy hostile defenses to the total destruction of the assigned target. He contributed immeasurably to the success of the Strategic Air Command's Contingency Operation in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Yaryan reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

3.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major John S. Yaryan, Jr., for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52 combat aircrew member assigned to the 43rd Strategic Wing, Andersen Air Force Base, Guam, on 1 July 1970. On that date, Major Yaryan flew as Crew Commander and Airborne Commander in the wave lead aircraft on a highly critical mission over Vietnam. Major Yaryan displayed outstanding airmanship and directed the well-coordinated effort required to lead the force through severe weather and a hostile environment to strike and destroy the primary target. He contributed immeasurably to the success of the Strategic Air Command's Contingency Operation in Southeast Asia. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Yaryan reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
