Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Allen E. Weseleskey for heroic and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving with Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron Three on the afternoon of 10 June 1967. Responding to an urgent request by a U.S. Army 5th Special Forces unit, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey, Attack Helicopter Fire Team Leader led his flight against a Viet Cong element to support the U.S. unit who was under intense enemy fire in the Long Toan Secret Zone. Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey repeatedly and courageously conducted accurate attacks upon the enemy positions. Despite heavy enemy anti-aircraft fire he calmly maneuvered his helicopter fire team to bring his weapons to bear on the Viet Cong and disrupt their attack on the U.S. Army Special Forces unit. Having expended his ammunition and low on fuel, he departed, rearmed, refueled and then returned to the combat area. Again he was met by a determined enemy who put forth a vicious barrage of fire. Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey's continued accurate engagement totally disrupted and turned back the Viet Cong attack. His devotion to duty, courage and superb airmanship were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Commander Allen E. Weseleskey for conspicuous gallantry and intrepidy in action against the enemy, evidenced by voluntary action on the night of 21 June 1967 in the Long Toan Secret Zone of the Republic of Vietnam. On that date, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey, as an Attack Helicopter Fire Team Leader, came to the assistance of a 5th Army Special Forces Unit under heavy assault by a Viet Cong unit in the evening darkness and vigorously struck the enemy with deadly and accurate rocket and machine gun fire. Undaunted by adverse weather conditions, extreme darkness and in the face of intense and devastating enemy ground fire, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey steadfastly and accurately concentrated his weapons systems onto a determined group of Viet Cong who were about to overrun the U.S. Special Forces reconnaissance unit. As fire team leader of two Navy attack helicopters, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey disregarded his own safety and chose to expose himself during the engagement by illuminating the immediate area with parachute flares. His courage, overwhelming aggressiveness and complete grasp of the tactical situation proved superior to the enemy's guns, thus breaking their attack ten meters short of the U.S. Special Forces position. During the ensuing medical evacuation of the wounded friendly personnel, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey led the medevac helicopter into the U.S. Forces position. When the medevac helicopter missed the initial landing attempt, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey low on fuel and short of ammunition commenced the evacuation himself. Due to the severity of the wounds sustained by the ground forces, Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey aborted his landing to ensure that proper medical aid and attention could be brought in immediately via the medevac helicopter. Faced with the knowledge his flight might be forced down due to fuel exhaustion, he again led the medevac helicopter into the landing at low level, suppressing enemy fire and still undaunted by adverse weather conditions and rapidly diminishing fuel reserves Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey led the medevac helicopter safely out of the embattled area thus completing the mission and permitting the Special Forces unit to continue with their assignment. Lieutenant Commander Weseleskey's gallantry and intrepidy in battle were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
