Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as fire team leader of a flight of two UH-1B helicopter gunships attached to Helicopter Attack (Light) Squadron THREE, Detachment SEVEN, on 7 April 1968. Lieutenant Walker was scrambled to support a section of PBRs ambushed and pinned down in the narrow river channel between Cu Lao May and Tan Dinh Islands, Republic of Vietnam. Realizing that the PBRs would soon expend their ammunition and be easily sunk, Lieutenant Walker made repeated attacks on the enemy positions. Disregarding the intense fire directed at his aircraft from both sides of the channel he attacked low level, first one side of the channel and then the other. Lieutenant Walker did not cease his devastating attacks even when both aircraft received numerous hits. His intensely accurate rocket and machine gun fire suppressed the enemy attack and allowed the PBRs to transit the area and escape the deadly ambush. By his actions, attacking low level at night, constantly under murderous fire from both sides of the channel, Lieutenant Walker prevented the loss of two PBRs and their crews. His devotion to duty, courage under fire and outstanding professionalism were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
