Talton, CW2, 100E Trp A, 2nd Sqdn (Ambl) 17th CAV (WABOAC) for heroism involving aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on 15 November 1969. Chief Warrant Officer Talton distinguished himself while serving as aircraft commander of an AH-1C helicopter on a troop support mission near Tong Ha Mountain, Republic of Vietnam. Friendly ground troops were in heavy contact with a formidable size enemy force. Although receiving intense enemy automatic weapons and anti-aircraft fire, Chief Warrant Office Talton made several low passes, firing point blank at enemy positions with deadly accuracy. Aware of the immediate danger to the ground force, he attacked and destroyed a fifty caliber position. His actions saved lives and inspired the ground element to attack with renewed vigor. Chief Warrant Officer Talton's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United states Army.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Michael L. Talton, CW2, 100E Trp A, 2nd Sqdn (Ambl) 17th CAV (WABOAC) for heroism involving aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on 23 December 1969. Chief Warrant Officer Talton distinguished himself while serving as aircraft commander of an AH-1C gunship on a night troop support mission in the A Shau Valley, Republic of Vietnam. An enemy force of unknown size had moved in on a reconnaissance team, which was in need of gunship support. Although it meant flying through the mountains and marginal weather conditions, Chief Warrant Officer Talton realized the urgency of the situation and volunteered for the mission. He located the friendly positions, but came under intense enemy fire from two different locations. He then quickly leveled a heavy volume of suppressive fire at the enemy positions at near point blank range until the fire was silenced. Even though the weather was deteriorating, he remained in the vicinity until the team assured him that the enemy fire had ceased.

Talton, CW2, 100E Trp A, 2nd Sqdn (Ambl) 17th CAV (WABOAC) for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on 12 January 1970. Chief Warrant Officer Talton distinguished himself while serving as aircraft commander of an AH-1C gunship on a visual reconnaissance mission in the A Shau Valley, Republic of Vietnam. His aircraft came under intense hostile fire from an enemy force. He quickly engaged several well-fortified enemy positions which were protecting a large bulldozer. Despite heavy enemy fire which damaged his aircraft, he continued to level accurate fire at the emplacements. After Chief Warrant Officer Talton destroyed the bulldozer, he continued to fly over the target area, engaging the anti-aircraft position and an estimated thirty to forty enemy troops until all his ordnance was expended. Chief Warrant Officer Talton's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United states Army.
