Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant William K. Snyder for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Co-Pilot of a Transport Plane in Marine Utility Squadron Two Hundred Fifty-three during operations against enemy Japanese forces in the Solomon Islands Area from 13 to 15 October 1942. Completing his twentieth mission during this period, Second Lieutenant Snyder contributed materially to the success of his squadron in the transportation of vital supplies and personnel to the forward areas. His courage and devotion to duty in the face of grave hazards were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
