The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Charles D. Robinson for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight serving as a Pilot with Marine Attack Squadron 223, Marine Aircraft Group Twelve, First Marine Aircraft Wing in connection with operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On the night of 9 February 1969, Major Robinson launched as Section Leader of a flight of two A-4 Skyhawk aircraft assigned to provide close air support for a Marine unit that was heavily engaged with a North Vietnamese Army company south of DaNang. Despite extreme darkness and a low cloud cover, he expeditiously directed his aircraft to the designated area and was informed by the tactical air controller (airborne) that the proximity of friendly and enemy positions would require precise ordnance delivery. Disregarding his own safety, Major Robinson immediately commenced a determined attack upon the hostile emplacements and came under a heavy volume of hostile small arms and machine gun fire. Ignoring the intense enemy fire, he fearlessly maneuvered his Skyhawk over the hazardous target area during repeated bombing runs, delivering his ordnance with devastating effectiveness. His bold initiative and resolute determination inspired all who observed him and were instrumental in forcing the enemy into a disorganized withdrawal. Major Robinson's courage, exceptional aeronautical ability and steadfast devotion to duty in the face of great personal danger contributed significantly to the accomplishment of the hazardous mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Charles D. Robinson for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as the Executive Officer of Marine Attack Squadron 223, Marine Aircraft Group Twelve, First Marine Aircraft Wing in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam. On the afternoon of 5 March 1969, Major Robinson launched as Section Leader of a flight of two A-4 Skyhawk aircraft assigned to provide close air support for a Marine unit heavily engaged with a hostile force in the vicinity of the Rockpile in Quang Tri Province. Arriving over the designated area, he was informed that the beleaguered Marines were receiving intense fire from an enemy bunker complex located on a precipitous ridgeline which prevented medical evacuation helicopters from extracting the wounded. Undaunted by extremely adverse weather conditions and the heavy volume of hostile small arms and automatic weapons directed against his aircraft. Major Robinson fearlessly maneuvered his Skyhawk on four bombing runs and boldly delivered his ordnance with such devastating precision that four enemy bunkers were destroyed and the hostile fire suppressed sufficiently to enable the extraction aircraft to land and evacuate the Marine casualties. Major Robinson's courage, superior airmanship and unwavering devotion to duty in the fact of great personal danger were instrumental in the accomplishment of the hazardous mission and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
