MODEL: O-1D, O-1G
Citation: 1.)
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Brian P. Mullady for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Mullady distinguished himself while serving as Pilot of an O1-D reconnaissance airplane on 11 October 1967. Arriving overhead shortly after a friendly unit made contact with an enemy force, he made low passes through enemy fire to pinpoint the enemy positions while at the same time calling for a flight of gunships. After directing the gunship strike against the enemy positions, he provided air cover for another friendly force as it advanced to help the company in contact. He then sighted six enemy soldiers trying to escape from the area and firing his rockets killed four and wounded two. Throughout the day he directed several medical evacuation helicopters and kept the ground forces advised on the changing situation. He was responsible for the success of this operation. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Brian P. Mullady for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Captain Mullady distinguished himself while serving as Pilot of an O1-G reconnaissance airplane on 14 December 1967. He received a call for assistance when a friendly force came under heavy fire from a large enemy force. He arrived minutes after the initial call and assisted the ground commander by providing vectoring instructions for a medical evacuation helicopter. After the wounded were extracted, Captain Mullady located the enemy positions, resulting in several enemy killed. After the artillery was lifted, he assaulted the enemy positions with his rockets, killing one of the enemy and damaging two enemy sampans. The coastal plain over which Captain Mullady was flying offered no terrain protection to the aircraft. As a result, he was under the constant fire of the enemy force throughout the day. There were an estimated forty-eight enemy killed and two enemy captured during this operation. Captain Mullady was instrumental in the success of this mission. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
