Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Michael D. McGinty for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F4C Pilot near Hoa Lac, North Vietnam on 28 April 1967. On that date, with complete disregard for his own personal safety, Lieutenant McGinty flew through heavy ground fire, among occupied surface-to-air missile sites and delivered all his ordnance on his assigned target. This courageous and aggressive attack against a heavily defended target disrupted the opposing force’s air power. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant McGinty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to First Lieutenant Michael D. McGinty for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4C Pilot over North Vietnam on 9 August 1967. On that date, Lieutenant McGinty was diverted from a pre-planned night armed reconnaissance mission to an area in which was detected a large convoy of supply trucks, destined for the opposing forces. Despite the ever present threat of hostile ground fire, and an aircraft malfunction that made illumination of the target area difficult, he was able to successfully attack the convoy. The success with which Lieutenant McGinty was able to function under these conditions was indicated by the ten trucks destroyed, and ten large fires left burning as the flight departed the target area. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant McGinty reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
