Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 10 March 1967. On this date, during Operation Junction City, Warrant Officer McCrory was piloting the 3d Brigade command group on a mission to direct the defense of an artillery fire support base. The base was receiving Viet Cong mortar barrages and human wave assaults. As he made repeated treetop level passes over the area to enable the command group to observe the situation, his aircraft received intensive hostile ground fire. With complete disregard for his personal safety, he continued circling the area at a dangerously low level while the command group deployed the friendly ground troops to maximum advantage and directed air strikes and artillery fire on the insurgent positions. When the positions had been destroyed and the hostile forces had fled, Warrnt Officer McCrory pursued the retreating insurgents so that the command group could continue to direct devastating artillery fire on them. During the battle, he remained in the air for over four hours. His courage and aggressiveness under fire contributed significantly to the rout of a numerically superior hostile force with very few casualties. Warrant Officer McCrory's actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 1st Infantry Division, and the United States Army.
