The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Four Jeffrey D. Macauley while participating in aerial flight from 3 March 2015 to 4 March 2015 as a MH-47G fully mission qualified Pilot-in-Command during Operation Freedom's Sentinel in support of Resolute Support Mission. CW4 Macauley, while executing evasive aerial maneuvering of his aircraft and the flight in his charge, inspired his crew and the entirety of the assault force to perform at their best. His actions undoubtedly saved his aircraft and preserved the lives of 63 Special Operators on board Thunder 12 and Thunder 13. Throughout the mission, he displayed great personal courage, heroism, and a complete disregard for his personal safety. Chief Warrant Officer Four Macauley's distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the 160th Special Operations Aviation Regiment, The NATO Special Operations Command-Afghanistan/Special Operations Joint Task Force-Afghanistan, and the United States Army.

On this date, Chief Warrant Officer Four Macauley's bravery, poise, and exceptional leadership inspired his crew to complete the exfiltration of ground forces that were in duress and receiving heavy enemy fire. Chief Warrant Officer Four Macauley's distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon, himself, the Joint Task Force, and the United States Army.
