Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement in aerial flight while serving as a Pilot with Marine Medium Helicopter Squadron 165, Marine Aircraft Group Sixteen, First Marine Aircraft Wing in connection with combat operations against the enemy in the Republic of Vietnam on 2 February 1969, First Lieutenant Jividen launched as Aircraft Commander of a CH-46 transport helicopter assigned the mission of extracting a Marine reconnaissance team that was heavily engaged with the enemy in Quang Nam Province. Arriving over the designated area despite limited visibility and intermittent rain showers, he alertly located the beleaguered unit's position and, supported by helicopter gunships and fixed wing aircraft, skillfully commenced to hover his aircraft over the reconnaissance team as a 120-foot flexible aluminum ladder was lowered. Completely disregarding his own safety, First Lieutenant Jividen remained in this hazardous position despite the continuous enemy fire, which was directed at his aircraft, and violent updrafts which made maintenance of the hover extremely difficult, until the reconnaissance team was safely aboard. First Lieutenant Jividen's courage, superb aeronautical ability and steadfast devotion to duty at great personal risk inspired all who observed him and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the Marine Corps and of the United States Naval Service.
