Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Glenn L. Hess for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Hess distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 11 January 1969, while serving as a Pilot of an OH-6A helicopter during a night combat support mission near An Loc, Republic of Vietnam. While flying in support of ground units which were in contact with a large enemy force, Warrant Officer Hess exposed himself to the hostile ground fire, as he flew at low altitudes to locate and place accurate suppressive fire on the enemy positions. When helicopters landed to extract the ground units, Warrant Officer Hess spotted two enemy mortar positions and immediately directed aerial rocket artillery on them eliminating their threat. During the entire extraction, Warrant Officer Hess assisted the friendly troops in breaking contact with the enemy and led them to the pick-up site. His display of personal bravery and devotion to duty is in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Glenn L. Hess for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Hess distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 21 July 1969 while serving as Aircraft Commander during a night resupply mission in Quan Nam Hoa Province, Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Hess ignored his personal safety and although the preceding aircraft was destroyed with loss of the entire crew, proceeded into the hazardous area to successfully resupply the ground unit with the critically needed slingload of ammunition. The aircraft was constantly exposed to hostile fire and sustained twenty-one hits, many of them heavy caliber. Warrant Officer Hess remained calm and faultlessly performed the important mission. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
