The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Granville B. Goza III for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an HH-43F Co-Pilot in Southeast Asia on 1 October 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Goza was instrumental in the rescue and recovery of a downed United States Army Pilot from hostile territory despite extremely adverse conditions of inclement weather, aircraft malfunction, and hostile ground fire. With unwavering calmness and courage, Lieutenant Goza maintained all radio communications, directed systematic flare drops to locate the general area of the survivor and coordinated the efforts of the entire crew in a low level search for the downed Pilot. After the pick-up of the survivor, it was largely due to the directions given by Lieutenant Goza that the Rescue Crew Commander was able to initiate evasive action and avoid the hail of automatic weapons fire being directed at the departing helicopter. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Goza reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant Granville B. Goza III for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as HH-43F Rescue Co-Pilot near Can Tho, Republic of Vietnam on 15 January 1967. On that date, Lieutenant Goza participated on a Rescue Recovery Mission of a crashed U.S. Army helicopter while under hostile fire. His handling of radio transmissions, area surveillance for unfriendly forces, and monitoring of aircraft instruments allowed the Pilot to concentrate on the recovery of personnel. His rapid assessment of information and invaluable assistance were key factors in the rapid completion of this mission thereby minimizing the aircraft and crew's exposure to hostile ground fire. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Second Lieutenant Goza reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
