The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Warren A. Chunn for exceptionally meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action, above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Chunn distinguished himself on 8 April 1972 while serving as an Aircraft Commander in a heavy aerial field artillery section. Three American personnel were stranded between Loc Ninh and An Loc in an open field. They were surrounded by a force of seventy-five to one-hundred North Vietnamese. Disregarding his personal safety, Captain Chunn fired on the enemy's position time again and time again to silence them. Exposing himself to enemy fire, his final efforts to silence the target resulted in the enemy fire being reduced enough to allow a rescue helicopter to evacuate the three Americans. Captain Chunn's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.

The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Warren A. Chunn for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action, above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Captain Chunn distinguished himself on 16 April 1972 while serving as Section Leader of a heavy section of Cobras launched to cover a dustoff mission into the center of An Loc. The medevac aircraft was safely escorted into the landing zone and 11 wounded ARVN soldiers were removed. As Captain Chunn broke station to refuel and rearm, the ARVN battalion came under attack by an estimated 250 NVA. Although his aircraft was into its fuel reserve he committed it to the battle catching scores of enemy soldiers in the open by the unexpected return of the Cobras. His timely and accurate fire broke the enemy attack. After returning to Lai Khe for refueling and ammunition, he was sent to cover another dustoff mission to evacuate a critically wounded US advisor from the besieged city. As the Cobras reached the target area, they came under extremely heavy fire that shot down the dustoff helicopter as he departed the landing zone. Without hesitation, Captain Chunn escorted a UH-1 to the area of the downed medevac ship. Captain Chunn's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
