Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Forrest R. Cain for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a KC-135 Boom Operator assigned to the 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand on 27 January 1971. On that date, Sergeant Cain rendezvoused with an F-4 that had declared a fuel emergency and discovered upon attempting air refueling that receiver malfunctions prevented fuel transfer using both normal and Tanker Manual operation. Evaluating his remaining options, Sergeant Cain successfully transferred fuel using boom extend pressure as an emergency procedure thus saving a valuable aircraft and crew. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Cain reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

2.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Technical Sergeant Forrest R. Cain for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a KC-135 Boom Operator over North Vietnam on 26 June 1972. On that date, despite the threat from airborne hostile interceptors and ground based defense systems, Sergeant Cain penetrated hostile airspace in his unarmed tanker to effect an emergency rendezvous and refueling with a fuel-starved tactical fighter. His prompt and courageous response saved a valuable tactical fighter and prevented the possible death or capture of its crew. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Cain reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
