Bures for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 14 June 1968. Immediately thereafter, Major Bures initiated an attack against the position inspite of heavy hostile fire and deteriorating weather. The highly accurate attack resulted in the destruction of an ammunition storage depot, numerous supply trucks and an oil tanker. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Major Bures reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
2.)
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to Major Eugene F. Bures for heroism while participating in aerial flight as an F-4D Aircraft Commander over North Vietnam on 29 June 1968. On that date, Major Bures was performing a dusk armed reconnaissance mission against a heavily defended, vital line of communication and supply in North Vietnam. Despite poor visibility conditions and extremely heavy, intense, accurate antiaircraft artillery fire, Major Bures continued to press his attack. Although aircraft control problems were encountered, caused by a failure in the stability augmentation system and runway rudder trim, Major Bures made multiple passes on the target achieving outstanding results. The outstanding heroism and selfless devotion to duty displayed by Major Bures reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
