Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Lawrence R. Burbank for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidence by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Chief Warrant Officer Burbank distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while piloting a transport helicopter in support of a fire support base. The fire support base was under ground attack when he delivered the first sortie of ammunition. Incoming mortar rounds and small arms fire were intense as he approached, but with prior planning and professionalism, he was able to deliver the much needed sortie of ammunition safely and depart the area sustaining no injuries or damage. This action was repeated on three more sorties. As a result of the ammunition he delivered, the enemy suffered heavy losses and was unable to inflict severe damage to the fire support base. Chief Warrant Officer Burbank's outstanding display of bravery, flying ability and devotion to duty were exemplary. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
