2.)
The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain Allen L. Bryson for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a B-52D Electronic Warfare Officer, 307th Strategic Wing, U-Tapao Airfield, Thailand on 7 May 1973. On that date, Captain Bryson's B-52D aircraft experienced complete electrical power failure while flying a critical bombing mission in Southeast Asia. Although his aircraft was the lead aircraft of a cell of three B-52D aircraft flying in severe weather, a successful lead aircraft change was accomplished just prior to the target. With only a very limited supply of emergency electrical power available, Captain Bryson and his crew were able to recover a minimum amount of vital navigational equipment. Captain Bryson's outstanding knowledge of his aircraft and its systems played an important part in the safe recovery of a valuable crew and aircraft. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Bryson reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
