Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Walter H. Bryan for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight within enemy-held Korea on September 11, 1950. Lieutenant Bryan displayed superior flying ability by flying in support of the United National activities in the Waegwan area. Despite rugged terrain and adverse weather conditions, Lieutenant Bryan performed dive bombing, rocketing and strafing runs from dangerously low altitudes, destroying and damaging enemy installations and equipment. Through intense ground fire, he personally destroyed one enemy half-truck type vehicle and three unidentified type enemy vehicles, as well as accounting for the destruction of many hostile troops on the surrounding hills and ridges. The vehicles destroyed contained enemy supplies and ammunition and their destruction resulted in hampering enemy advances in the area. The courage, coolness and exceptional skill displayed by Lieutenant Bryan reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
