CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT:  Desert Storm

Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Craig E. Brown for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while attacking the Salman Pak Biological Weapons Storage Bunkers, Iraq, on 17 January 1991. On that date, Lieutenant Brown was the pilot of an F-111F which crossed into Iraq with the initial wave of coalition aircraft on day one of Operation DESERT STORM. Displaying exceptional bravery and courage, he successfully attacked a biological munitions bunker in the face of grueling antiaircraft fire and surface-to-air missiles. Without regard to personal safety he flew his aircraft at night and at the very limits of its terrain following capability climbing without hesitation into the heart of the ground fire envelope to accurately deliver his munitions. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Lieutenant Brown reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
