Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Chief Warrant Officer Three, John D. Williams, United States Army for heroism while participating in aerial flight on 10 May 2010, as a MH-60L Direct Action Penetrator Fully Mission Qualified Pilot-In-Command for a Joint Task Force in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. On this date, Chief Warrant Officer Three Williams provided precision rotary-wing assault fires in the face of determined enemy, despite receiving effective enemy fire. His superior handling of his aircraft and situational awareness led to the recovery of a downed aircraft crew and enabled the ground force to rapidly maneuver on the objective, achieving overwhelming mission success. Chief Warrant Officer Three Williams' distinctive accomplishments are in keeping with the finest traditions of military service and reflect great credit upon himself, the Joint Task Force and the United States Army.
