Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Andrew J. Bringuel for exceptionally meritorious achievement while participating in aerial flight in the Republic of Vietnam. Major Bringuel distinguished himself from 2 June to 8 December 1968 as Operations Officer for Operation Prize Crew II, the second phase of evaluation of an experimental, powered glider which was developed to test the feasibility of using a quiet aircraft for night reconnaissance. The glider's early stage of development and its limited ability to evade ground fire made each mission extremely hazardous. Disregarding his safety, Major Bringuel flew the unarmed ship at low levels to spot targets which otherwise would have been undetected and remained over the hostile positions to direct fire on the enemy. He made significant improvements in the glider and produced vital data for follow-up aircraft. Major Bringuel's outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
