Citation: 1.) The President of the United States of America, authorized by Act of Congress, July 2, 1926, has awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross to CHIEF WARRANT OFFICER CHARLES W. WEIGANDT, UNITED STATES ARMY for heroism while participating in aerial flight: Chief Warrant Officer Charles W. Weigandt distinguished himself heroically on 20 December 1989 while assigned to B Company, 160th Special Operations Aviation Group (Airborne), as a Pilot in an AH-6 helicopter gunship formation while deployed on Operation Just Cause. He displayed exemplary flight skills and gallantry while neutralizing and destroying hostile targets threatening the safety and success of airborne assault forces at Rio Hato Airfield. Chief Warrant Officer Weigandt's heroism in the face of an alerted and heavily armed enemy reflects great credit on him and the United States Army.
