Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant James R. Brewer for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-7A Flight Mechanic at Katum, Republic of Vietnam on 17 January 1972. On that date, Sergeant Brewer flew on a combat resupply mission to deliver urgently needed ammunition. Despite hostile fire, Sergeant Brewer courageously performed his duties thereby ensuring the successful accomplishment of this vital airlift mission without loss of personnel or equipment. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Sergeant Brewer reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
