On 17 January 1991, over central Kuwait. Colonel Wright commanded a 70 ship airstrike designed to destroy airfield based Scud launchers and associated enemy air assets. Colonel Wright led his force against the enemy's most concentrated array of mobile surface-to-air missiles and an untold number of antiaircraft artillery batteries. Skillfully maneuvering his aircraft to attack. he precisely delivered his bombs on target amidst multiple optical and radar guided firings. After destroying the target, he successfully reformed his strike force and suffered no aircraft losses. The effectiveness of his strike was proven as thereafter no Scuds were ever launched from central Kuwait.
