Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Warrant Officer Grover E. Wright for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Warrant Officer Wright distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 30 December 1969, while serving as Aircraft Commander near Song Be in the Republic of Vietnam. Receiving a distress call from an aerial recon team which was under attack, Warrant Officer Wright arrived on station to find one of the aircraft shot down and out of ammunition. Despite intense enemy fire, he flew at treetop level in an attempt to locate the downed craft. Unable to find it, he covered the insertion of an aero-rifle platoon. When his aircraft was hit six times, he flew the crippled craft to a nearby fire support base, got another aircraft and immediately returned to the area where he continued to attack the enemy. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
