Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Newton W. Wilson for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight, while participating in aerial operations against the enemy on 3 February 1945. During this mission First Lieutenant Wilson, as a crew member of a heavy bombardment airplane, assisted in the assault on Corregidor prior to invasion by knocking out enemy anti-aircraft and coast defense guns. This mission was a 2,140-mile round trip over water made in dangerous weather conditions. Despite anti-aircraft and automatic weapons fire, First Lieutenant Wilson manned his position to help make the attack a successful one. The cool courage, in the face of danger, the high degree of professional skill and devotion to duty displayed by First Lieutenant Wilson exemplifies the highest traditions of the Army Air Forces
