Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. Major Wilhelm distinguished himself by exceptionally meritorious achievement while serving as Commanding Officer, 273rd Aviation Company (Heavy Helicopter). He personally supervised and improved liaison and mission coordination between his unit and supported units. He made many visits to supported units to explain the capabilities of his aircraft in relation to their logistical problems. This increased the efficiency in the use of heavy lift aircraft and accomplished outstanding results in the supported units. To insure that his unit was providing the best possible support, Major Wilhelm flew regularly one full day each week. He flew with each aircraft commander and earned the respect of all men in his unit through his leadership and by flying to remote outposts and base camps to insure that liaison and coordination were the best possible. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
