Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant Charles R. Wayman for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight while serving as Bombardier of a B-17 airplane on twenty-five heavy bombardment missions over enemy occupied Continental Europe. Through the courageous application of his bombing technique in battle, Lieutenant Wayman had directly aided in the destruction of important enemy installations on each of these twenty-five missions, among which were the operations over Wilhelmshaven, Germany, 3 November 1943; Emden, Germany, 11 December 1943; and Bremen, Germany, 10 December 1943. The courage, coolness, and skill displayed by Lieutenant Wayman on all these occasions reflect the highest credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
