Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Second Lieutenant George E. Ward, Jr. for extraordinary achievement while participating in more than one hundred hours of aerial flight over territory in Burma and China where exposure to enemy fire was probable and expected from 14 May 1945 to 4 June 1945. Flying unarmed C-47 transport aircraft through instrument weather,over hazardous terrain, this pilot brought supplies, equipment, and reinforcements to the forward area. His devotion to duty and degree of efficiency, reflect great credit on himself and on the Army Air Forces of the United States.
