Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Chester T. Walters for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as Pilot of a helicopter while attached to Marine Aircraft Maintenance Squadron Thirty-three in connection with operations against enemy aggressor forces in Korea on 7 July 1953. Receiving an urgent request to evacuate casualties from the burning wreckage of a medium bomber that had crashed a few miles from an advanced Marine air base, First Lieutenant Walters immediately initiated a shuttle service from the wreckage to the group dispensary despite extremely adverse weather consisting of a low-cloud ceiling below the surrounding mountain tops. By his prompt action and superb airmanship, he was responsible for saving the life of the sole survivor of the crash. By his daring initiative and exceptional perseverance during this and numerous other rescue flights, he earned the confidence of pilots throughout southern Korea, thereby aiding the combat effectiveness of the First Marine Aircraft Wing in operations against the enemy. His courage and devotion to duty reflect great credit upon First Lieutenant Walters and were in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service.
