Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross with “V” Device to Major Chad A. Thayer United States Army for Heroism: while participating in aerial flight from 25 January 2023 to 26 January 2023 as the Air Mission Commander for a Joint Task Force in support of an overseas operation. During this period, Major Thayer meticulously planned and flawlessly executed a high risk mission, launching from a complex maritime setting, through an early warning network, and under persistent enemy threat in harsh environmental conditions. Without regard for his personal safety, Major Thayer displayed distinct courage, exceptional airmanship, and gallantry while leading a helicopter assault force under hostile threat against an armed enemy of the United States. Through his distinctive accomplishments, Major Thayer reflected great credit upon himself, the Joint Task Force, and the United States Army. (WITH VALOR)
