CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam

Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Gerald E. Bozeman for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a C-130E Aircraft Commander at Kham Duc Airfield, Republic of Vietnam on 8 August 1970. On that date, Major Bozeman flew an extremely hazardous mission through adverse weather conditions and hostile ground fire to airlift combat essential aviation fuel to this forward base. Hostile activity in the area was so intense that Forward Air Controller and direct fighter support were necessary. This mission was further complicated by mountainous terrain and marginal runway conditions. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Major Bozeman reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
