Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Anthony M. Vickers for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. Major Vickers distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous action on 25 April 1968, while serving as a Pilot of a CH-47 helicopter during a rescue mission in the A Shau Valley, Republic of Vietnam. When a request for evacuation of a downed crew was received, Major Vickers volunteered for the mission. While hovering over the downed helicopter, his aircraft came under intense enemy ground fire and was downed. Immediately, Major Vickers began administering first aid to the injured crewmembers and set up a defensive perimeter. His outstanding flying ability and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
