Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. These men distinguished themselves by exceptionally valorous actions while servicing as aircraft commanders of helicopter gunships during a night counter offensive mission in Kien Giang Province. With complete disregard for their own safety, they made numerous rocket runs on fortified enemy positions near a beseiged allied command post, placing deadly accurate fire on the enemy, while receiving intense automatic weapons and small arms fire. For six hours they engaged the hostile positions, and when dawn broke the enemy withdrew. By their courage and professional performance, these men were in great measure responsible for the successful defense of the beleaguered outpost. Their actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon themselves, their unit, and the United States Army.
