Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while serving as pilot of an A-2C type aircraft dispatched on light bombardment missions against the enemy in the European Theater of Operations from April to December 1944. During this period Lt. Bowen 's courage and aggressiveness demonstrated in the face of many obstacles in large measure contributed to the successful operations of his group. By his tireless efforts, proficiency, and determination on numerous and hazardous combat missions Lt. Bowen attained an outstanding record. His courage and leadership in the face of enemy fire and his efficiency despite unfavorable weather conditions throughout these numerous missions reflect great credit upon himself and the Army Air Forces.
