The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Major Crawford 0. Shockley for heroism while participating in aerial flight as Aircraft Commander over Southeast Asia on 13 February 1970. On that date, Major Shockley completely devastated three active and hostile antiaircraft artillery positions with an outstanding demonstration of tactical bombing. Without regard of his own personal safety, Major Shockley made two successive passes on the intensely firing guns, diving through a continuous barrage of fire to place his ordnance precisely on the hostile positions. The outstanding heroism and selfless displayed by Major Shockley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

The President of the United States takes pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross (First Oak Leaf Cluster) to Lieutenant Colonel Crawford O. Shockley distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 6 May 1972. On that date, Colonel Shockley led a flight of two aircraft which attacked a surface to air missile site in North Vietnam. Despite intense antiaircraft fire and rapidly changing weather conditions, Colonel Shockley’s flight successfully attacked the site, destroying two surface to air missiles and causing such extensive damage to the site that it was eliminated as a threat to allied aircraft. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Shockley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Shockley distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4 aircraft commander in Southeast Asia on 18 May 1972. On that date, Colonel Shockley led three flights of F-4’s in support of a strike force attacking high priority targets deep in the heart of North Vietnam. Despite extremely poor weather conditions, surface-to-air missiles, and antiaircraft artillery fire, Colonel Shockley accomplished his assigned mission of negating hostile defenses for the strike force. This allowed the strike force to destroy their assigned targets and return safely. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Shockley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

On that date, Colonel Shockley led two flights of F-4s on an extremely important and vital mission in support of a strike force attacking high priority targets deep in the heart of North Vietnam. Despite the hazards of surface-to-air missiles, antiaircraft artillery fire and hostile aircraft which attacked his force, he accomplished his assigned mission of negating hostile defenses for the strike force. This allowed the strike force to destroy their assigned targets and return safely. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Shockley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Shockley distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander in Southeast Asia on 19 December 1972. On that date, Colonel Shockley participated in an eight ship chaff force tasked to lay a protective corridor for ensuing strike forces bombing deep in the heart of North Vietnam. Despite the heavy air defense reaction, Colonel Shockley succeeded in accomplishing the assigned mission. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Shockley reflect great credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.

Shockley distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an F-4E Aircraft Commander on 8 October 1972. On that date, Colonel Shockley was tasked to destroy a highly lucrative transshipment point in North Vietnam. Despite marginal weather and heavy opposition from the hostile forces he was able to deliver his ordnance accurately and inflict heavy losses to the opposing force. The professional competence, aerial skill and devotion to duty displayed by Colonel Shockley reflect credit upon himself and the United States Air Force.
