Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for heroism and extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as an Airborne Electronics Countermeasures Officer with marine Composite Reconnaissance Squadron One. On 27 July 1965, Chief Warrant Officer Steinken distinguished himself by his selfless courage and exceptional aeronautical ability in the execution of an extremely hazardous mission, deep in enemy territory. Despite the hazards involved, he courageously continued on, successfully completing the mission. By his heroic and skillful efforts, Chief Warrant officer Steinken contributed significantly to the overall success of United States efforts in Southeast Asia. His performance of duty throughout was in keeping with the highest traditions of the United States Naval Service. William T. Steinken is a member of the Distinguished Flying Cross Society.
