Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Emanuel P. Spero for extraordinary achievement while serving as Radio Operator-Gunner on a B-26 airplane on twenty-five bombardment missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe. Staff Sergeant Spero displayed undaunted courage and imperturbable coolness under intense concentrations of enemy anti-aircraft fire and enemy fighter plane action. Staff Sergeant Spero aided materially in the successful completion of these missions. Staff Sergeant Spero’s versatility and skill reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States.
