Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Lieutenant Jack F. Smith for extraordinary achievement while serving as Pilot of an A-20 type aircraft from May to December 1944. Dispatched on numerous and extremely difficult missions over German-occupied Europe, Lieutenant Smith repeatedly attacked and destroyed many vital enemy objectives despite adverse weather conditions and dangers involved on hazardous missions. Demonstrating calm judgment and superb pilotage when confronted by enemy anti-aircraft fire, Lieutenant Smith distinguished himself by conspicious aerial skill while participating in these vital attacks and brings high credit to himself and to the Army Air Forces.
