Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the award of the Distinguished Flying Cross to Tim E. Sleeth, First Lieutenant, Armor, Troop F, 8th Cavalry, 123d Aviation Battalion, for heroism while participating in aerial flight as evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam. First Lieutenant Sleeth distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions from 30 April 1970 to 2 May 1970 while serving as an Aircraft Commander with Troop F, 8th Cavalry. During this period, Lieutenant Sleeth was flying a helicopter in support of allied ground units in the vicinity of Hiep (illegible). On numerous occasions, Lieutenant Sleeth performed fire support, (illegible), and medical evacuation missions in the face of intense enemy opposition. With complete disregard for his ·personal safety, he repeatedly engaged well fortified hostile positions with accurate rocket and machine gun fire, enabling friendly ground units to overrun several enemy elements. Ignoring the danger involved, Lieutenant Sleeth skillfully maneuvered his ship through the intense hostile fusillades in order to provide effective cover and support for the allied units. Through his timely and courageous actions, he was instrumental in the defeat of the hostile force and the capture of vast quantities of strategic material with a minimum number of casualties. First Lieutenant Sleeth’s personal heroism, professional competence, and devotion to duty are in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service, and reflect great credit upon himself, the Americal Division, and the United States Army.
