Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Captain James R. Sineath for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary action above and beyond the call of duty in the Republic of Vietnam on 27 March 1970. Captain Sineath distinguished himself while serving as Co-pilot of a UH-1H helicopter during a troop insertion mission in Quang Tri Province, Republic of Vietnam. An OH-58 observation helicopter was downed by enemy fire, and Captain Sineath inserted a security force which was to locate and secure the downed crew and aircraft. While approaching the landing zone, he maintained contact with supporting helicopters and directed accurate suppressive fire onto enemy positions. Directing his door-gunners in placing suppressive fire on the insurgents, he successfully inserted the security force. When additional troops were needed, Captain Sineath flew through hostile fire and adverse weather conditions to insert the reinforcements. His actions contributed greatly to the success of the mission. Captain Sineath's personal bravery and devotion to duty were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit, and the United States Army.
