Citation: 1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross. Captain Simons distinguished himself by extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as EC-47 Navigator in the Republic of Vietnam on 14 December 1966. On that date, Captain Simons accomplished a highly classified unarmed reconnaissance mission. While flying under extremely adverse weather conditions and after the aircraft was damaged by hostile ground fire he continued his mission and obtained accurate and extremely valuable intelligence information which immeasurably aided the Combined Allied Ground Forces engaged in operation Thayer II. The professional competence, aerial skill, and devotion to duty displayed by Captain Simons reflect great credit upon himself and the Untied States Air Force.
