Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant James S. Siegenthaler for extraordinary achievement while serving as Gunner on a B-26 airplane on twenty-five bombardment missions over enemy-occupied Continental Europe. Sergeant Siegenthaler’s devotion to duty and technical skill have been invaluable on each of the twenty-five missions in which he has participated. Fighting from his gun position, he has frustrated many enemy attacks. The intrepidity and coolness displayed by Sergeant Siegenthaler exemplify the best traditions of the Army Air Forces.
