Citation: 1.) The call of duty while serving as a pilot with the 2nd Battalion, 12th Artillery, in the Republic of Vietnam. On the above date, Warrant Officer Sheorn was responsible for flying battalion command personnel to Fire Support Base Jay, which was under heavy rocket, mortar and ground attacks by North Vietnamese Army forces. Upon landing at the fire support base, Warrant Officer Sheorn volunteered to evacuate wounded personnel to medical facilities. Each departure and landing was subjected to intense small arms and automatic weapons fire. However, his complete disregard for his own safety and his professional assessment of the enemy situation made flight to and from the fire support base possible and provided wounded personnel with fast medical treatment. Later in the day, Fire Support Base Jay again came under intense mortar fire. Warrant Officer Sheorn voluntarily flew in search of the enemy position. He was required to fly at dangerously low altitudes and extremely slow air speeds to accomplish his mission of directing counter-mortar fire on the enemy position. He completed this mission in an exemplary manner, thereby silencing the enemy mortars. Warrant Officer Sheorn's actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
