Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to Staff Sergeant Richard E. Seavey for extraordinary achievement in aerial flight from 20 March 1943 to 31 October 1943, in which period he flew 220 combat hours against the enemy in the China, Burma, India Theater. On 9 December 1943, while flying as Gunner in a medium bomber, Staff Sergeant Seavey exhibited outstanding skill when the formation in which he was flying was set upon by a large force of enemy fighters. He aided in holding off the attackers during the highly successful bomb run, and the half hour fight that followed, by skillful use of his guns. The courage of this member of an aerial combat crew is in keeping with the finest traditions of the Army Air Forces.
