Citation:  1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Richard H. Scott for heroism while participating in aerial flight as a liaison pilot, 380th Field Artillery Battalion, 102nd Infantry Division, on 24 February 1945. While flying his liaison plane on an artillery mission over the front lines, Lieutenant Scott prevented a friendly P47 pilot from strafing an allied anti-tank column on the Gevenich-Glimbach road in Germany. Fully aware of the extreme danger involved, he dove his plane between the P47 aircraft and the ground troops to make the other pilot realize his error and cease firing. Lieutenant Scott's utter disregard for personal safety, and his outstanding gallantry in the face of heavy fire were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service.
