AWARDED DFC:
1
CONFLICT/SPACE FLIGHT/EVENT: Vietnam
MODEL: CH-54
Citation: 1.) The President of the United States takes great pleasure in presenting the Distinguished Flying Cross to First Lieutenant Donald R. Scott for heroism while participating in aerial flight evidenced by voluntary actions above and beyond the call of duty. First Lieutenant Scott distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous actions while serving as Aircraft Commander of a CH-54 Skycrane resupplying artillery fire support bases. First Lieutenant Scott repeatedly hovered his exposed helicopter while placing each load onto trucks parked on a small narrow road. This courageous display of flying skill and professional ability saved the supported elements a vast amount of man hours that would have been expended to relocate the loads from the landing zone to the artillery site. Operating under hostile fire and in poor weather, he planned and executed his mission to insure completion with minimum risk to his crew and aircraft. His actions were in keeping with the highest traditions of the military service and reflect great credit upon himself, his unit and the United States Army.
