Citation:  1.) The Distinguished Flying Cross for extraordinary achievement while participating in aerial flight as a pilot of a B-17 aircraft with the 99th Bomb Group in the Mediterranean Theater of Operations. Throughout many long and hazardous combat missions against vital strategic targets deep in enemy occupied territory, confronted by heavy enemy opposition from highly aggressive fighters and intense and accurate anti-aircraft fire he consistently displayed outstanding courage aggressiveness and intense devotion to duty. Battling his way to the targets to aid materially to the utter destruction of important enemy installations and supplies, encountering adverse weather conditions, rugged mountainous terrain and many major obstacles during the long and hazardous missions. He and his crew fought-off and defeated the enemy with complete disregard for their personal safety against overwhelming odds. His conspicuous and extraordinary achievements throughout his many and successful combat operations reflect great credit upon himself and the Armed Forces of the United States of America.
